Age Concern - About Us

The stated aim of Age Concern organisations nationally is to "Promote the relief of older people". This is at the core of the work of Age Concern North East Wales (ACNEW). The range of services offered throughout the counties of Flintshire and Wrexham by ACNEW has grown in the years since the charity was set up. The Trustees and staff of the organisation strive to keep up with the rapid increase in the number of older people needing the services offered. All our services are developed with the aim to help the individual retain their independence and enjoy improved health and wellbeing in older age.
Objectives and Activities
The charitable object of Age Concern North East Wales is to "promote the relief of older people". Age Concern North East Wales has translated this into its mission statement, namely "to improve the quality of life for older people and their carers in North East Wales."
The objectives of the charity, as planned by the staff and Trustees are to:
- Provide services to older people and their carers;
- Promote safe and healthy living for older people;
- Raise the image and profile of older people's life issues;
- Actively promote participation and co-operation with other organisations;
- Continue to develop the effectiveness and efficiency of the organisation;
We do this by delivering the following services:
- Advocacy services across both counties, providing specialist advocacy support to older people;
- An income maximisation project to empower older people to claim their financial rights;
- The Wellcheck project, providing short-term, low-level support to older people in Flintshire, who are going through, or have recently experienced, life changes making them vulnerable and/or socially isolated;
- Food Solutions, a project designed to promote better access to a full range of food and shopping services for older people in Flintshire;
- Information provision on a wide range of issues to people across the area via the telephone, through information drop in sessions and other promotional events;
- Befriending – the project matches volunteers with socially isolated older people to help them to join in social activity within their local areas;
- Wrexham Options project is simiar to Wellcheck, offering supported informaton and advice to older people in Wrexham.
- Surefeet covers both the counties in which we work. It aims to support people at risk of falling to reduce their risk via practical help and support.
Volunteers have supported the delivery of many of these services. Age Concern North East Wales is indebted to the individual volunteers concerned for their expertise, time and support.
